Terrible Return to College

So I'm back in Grand Rapids and apparently the 100ft ethernet cable that I owned was taken away. It was wrapped around the sprinkler pull that circulates my apartment and the woman at the front desk said that it was removed because it could have caused all of the sprinklers in the building to go off. After telling her the price my family paid to get me it she stated that it would have cost me and my family $1,000,000 if the ethernet cable had set off the sprinklers. Don't know if that is real or she's just exaggerating, but throwing it out when it was my property and when I was to return to the exact same room in the exact same apartment is kind of a nerk move. Plus it was wrapped so firmly in place it wouldn't move at all unless it was unwound.

Without that ethernet cable I cannot access the Internet on my computer. On my tablet yes (which is how I am writing this post), but the computer is what I need to work in and to upload my upcoming college work. Them just pitching it when they knew I was returning (the woman I talked to knew who I was immediately from the talks my parents had with her on my apartment, so she knew about about my situation) is just.... not cool. I almost feel like she was already prepared for me to come down about this and had a speech ready to diswade me from persuing further into this. I might just be paranoid though. Either ways, I am stuck without Internet for my computer for a while, which means no games on Steam and all assignments will have to be done at school.

Now, should I be paid back a 100ft ethernet cable or some similarly priced item/ service, or have I been in the wrong for having the cable wrapped around the sprinkler pipe in a hazardous way? Of course I want what I believe is justice and get my cable back with an apology for taking and trashing it (especially since it is a very important piece and that so many people in my position, at being so far away from my router, cound have used it). But that's just me thinking. What do you all think?

In a bright note,  I don't have to pay for TV anyone since my parents have allowed me to use their Comcast to watch TV and movies on my tablet. Saves me money and can keep up to date with Steven Universe and Fear the Waking Dead. And I can still access the Internet through my tablet, just not as much as on a computer.
